Our Fleet
We use Hobie Mirage Drive kayaks exclusively from Fast Lane Sailing and Kayak. You will be fishing from either a 2024 Hobie Passport 12.0 R or a 2022 Hobie Outback. Each kayak will be outfitted with an NRS personal floatation device; marine VHF radio; paddle; dry bag; safety whistle; live bait containers or Hobie livewell (as necessary); fish grips; and pliers. These kayaks also have a dry compartment where you can store your cell phone or other valuables. In addition to the equipment on client kayaks; your guide will be carrying a gaff; net; game clip or game bag; and terminal tackle. Your guide may also be operating a motorized kayak should anyone need assistance getting back to the ramp.
Rental Equipment
Our premium rental equipment includes rods and reels from Penn, St. Croix, Phenix, Shimano, and Redington (fly rods and reels) and is available for a nominal fee. We also use Promar hoop nets during lobster season (see guide only services).
About Us
Who We Are
We are Veteran Owned. Our owner/operator, Julian Jones, served as a Helicopter Pilot in the United States Navy for twelve years. Julian is a native San Diegan who has fished in and around the local area since 1975. His saltwater experience stems from fishing on the Navy piers aboard Naval Air Station North Island and on the Miss Norris, a Morale Welfare and Recreation charter boat that fished offshore and at the Coronado Islands. Having recently retired from consulting, Julian is now focused on a career in the fishing industry helping clients learn more about the abundant natural resources available to us in Southern California. Julian also works as a guide for one of the absolute best fishing guide services in San Diego - San Dog Kayak Adventures. Besides operating Where Fish Live and guiding clients, Julian is a tournament angler who competes in kayak bass fishing tournament throughout the country. He is also the current president of the SoCal Kayak Anglers, the largest kayak fishing club in southern California.
