Kayak fishing, especially in the bay and ocean, is inherently dangerous. You will be fishing around power boats, military vessels, cargo ships, and (reckless) personal watercraft operators. Fast moving tidal currents, large waves, and marine wildlife also contribute to the dangers you could experience during one of our trips. YOUR SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY. While rare, your guide may adjust or even reschedule your trip based on the conditions present at launch time. We want you to have fun, but we also want you to return home safely.
This is our most popular trip due to the number and variety of fish you can catch in the bay. You will meet your guide at the Shelter Island boat ramp. With an incoming tide, your guide will have already obtained live bait. You will launch out and fish in and around Shelter Island, Spanish Landing, and potentially, Harbor Island. With an outgoing tide, you will accompany your guide to the bait barge and then proceed to the fishing grounds – Ballast Point, Zuniga Jetty, and around the bait barge itself. Target species include California Halibut, Spotted Bay Bass, Sand Bass, Sculpin, Barracuda, Bonito, Mackerel, Corvina, and many others. This is always a fun trip!

This is a new trip and is specifically designed for our experienced anglers and fly fishermen. You will NOT be fishing with live bait, rather, you will be fishing with artificials – swimbaits, umbrella rigs, soft-plastics, etc. (fly fishermen will be fishing streamers and shrimp patterns). With the appropriate coordination, our guide will have the appropriate terminal tackle available for a successful day on the water. Depending on what species you want to target, we will launch either from Coronado or National City. Target species include California Halibut, Spotted Bay Bass, and the ever illusive Cortez Bonefish.

Our Mission Bay trip is one of our most enjoyable trips and is highly recommended for novice anglers/kayakers. The waters in the bay are almost always calm, the fishing grounds are very close to the launch, and game fish are plentiful. You will meet your guide at Dana Landing boat launch, and after a 15 minute pedal to the bait barge, you will be fishing numerous hot spots for California Halibut and Spotted Bay Bass, with the possibility of catching Corvina, Bonito, Mackerel and other gamefish.
Duration: 6 hours

Because the Point Loma Kelp Bed trip can be extremely strenuous, we only offer this trip when the tides are right. To minimize the physical exertion required to get out to the fishing grounds, we will launch out of Dana Landing on the outgoing tide and return with the incoming tide. You may ask, “if it’s so tough to get out there, why go?”. The answer is simple…the fishing is some of the best in San Diego. If you find the right honey hole, you will get bit on every drop! The target species is some of the best table fare from our local waters, the California Sheephead. Some call it poor man’s lobster; we just call it good eats. You will also have an opportunity to catch Yellowtail, Mackerel, and White Seabass.

La Jolla is the birthplace of San Diego offshore kayak fishing. This trip is not for the faint of heart. You will be launching from the beach at La Jolla shores only if the seas permit it. Launching and recovering in anything greater that 2 foot seas can be dangerous. Your guide will evaluate the conditions and make a determination on whether it is safe to launch. You will pedal past the boundary of the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve and then “make bait” – that is, use a Sabiki rig to catch Pacific Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Squid, or Sardines. Once you have filled the livewell, you will drag bait around the kelp in search of our most prized gamefish – Yellowtail and White Seabass. You will also have the opportunity to fish for California Sheephead, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, and many other species.
